An interactive experience that reveals the unique world that awaits you at the University of Auckland.
The University of Auckland is amongst the highest ranked universities in the world and the largest research institution in New Zealand.
But the way that prospective students explore their academic options is evolving. Through collaborative workshops and research we learned that every journey to choosing a university is truly unique. Often overlooked factors such as background, circumstance, location and confidence level all play a role in decision making.
Our goal was to create an interactive experience that engages with prospective students in a new way — to start them thinking about a future with the University of Auckland that goes beyond just study.
A student-centric experience
Developed in collaboration with the Connected Experiences team at the university, our proposed solution was to place prospective students at the centre of the experience and encourage them to tell us about themselves. This came in the form of a microsite with two key areas.
The first features a short survey that builds a profile of a prospective student. Based on their responses, we then present back a stylised view of Auckland, full of beautifully crafted 3D objects to interact with — a visually unique reflection of the visitor with highlighted recommendations. Content within pages is also prioritised so information most relevant to the visitor appears at the top of the page.
Starting a conversation
We knew we needed to start a conversation with visitors in order to serve the most relevant content to guide them towards their next steps.
Succinct questions are presented in conversational terms that avoid academic jargon while simple yet playful interactions make the survey quick and interesting to complete.
We collect the knowledge we learn in a stylised kete - a contemporary link back to Māori tradition and heritage that emerged during one of our co-design sessions.
Your world, your way
Each 3D object within the world represents an area of content that prospective students can explore at their own pace, through tangible touchpoints that visually intrigue them.
Your World Your Way is the first interactive tool developed for prospective students in New Zealand tertiary education. Originally initiated in response to the disruption to traditional face-to-face student recruitment during the Covid pandemic, Your World Your Way has evolved into a platform that can grow over time along with the students’ own journey.
Your World Your Way continues to be used as both an online portal as well as a feature at recruitment events to complement the diligent work of student advisors.
